Fashion Blogs

Bloggers have made quite a name for themselves lately. On one of the blogs I found out Holt Renfrew stores which are like the Barneys of Canada had their store window displays showing their favorite fashion blogs, like shown above. Some of those blogs included The Sartorialist, Garance Dore and Sea of Shoes to name a few. So what does this say about the fashion world and its fans in the world of fashion blogs? Their influence is growing steadily.
In the August issue of Vogue, Sea of Shoes, the mother/daughter combo that takes pictures of each other while wearing fashionable clothes in Texas and abroad have been featured in a two page spread. The daughter has even been invited to design a collection of shoes for Urban Outfitters. Also, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist has come to the point where he gets sent to exotic locations around the world to take pictures for those countries local fashion mags and he just published a book of his pictures. Their notoriety is growing and I'm intrigued to see what happens next within the fashion blog world.

Algunos de los blogs incluyen The Saritorialist, Garance Dore,y Sea of Shoes.

MM MaxMara

Publication- MM Magazine
Stylist- Madeline Weeks
Photographer- Dewey Nicks
Models- Bianca Balti @ IMG, Clint Mauro @ Ford

My first and hopefully not the last time working with Italian label Max Mara. This editorial can be found in their publication MM the winter issue in Italian. With every shoot there is a variety of responsibilities and challenges. Below you can see the small room I had to work with and share with the tailors. I had to place the couch on the bed to make room for the two racks of clothes. One of my favorite parts of this shoot was the assignment to go and find some props the day before the shoot. I scoured NYC for a chess set, backgammon and tarot cards. The chess set made the cut. This jewel of a store I found in the village sold the pieces and boards separately so my goal was to get something visually striking. What do you think? Madeline said that she trusted my judgment so the pressure was on. The shoot went well and the team at MaxMara was awesome including Carole at Blondie productions who helped make things run smoothly.

Summer Blues

This is a quintessential summer editorial. The ever amazing Daria Werbowy here along with her brother in an island in the Pacific ocean. This was shot for Vogue a few years back. I'm craving being some where like this. Ok, I was in San Diego a couple of days ago but its not the same, they don't have palm trees like these and just look at the blue of the water, amazing. If you know the exact issue this editorial is from let me know.

Air-mez

The name is Hermès. The high end label is a french classic and you should know about it. The label has existed since 1837 and is world renowned for its craftsmanship of luxury goods and price. Every once in while I like to surf through the web and search through store's sites. Hermès' is interactively awesome. There you can view the latest runway shows for both men and women, a video of a leather artisian sewing a leather glove, and even the opportunity to play tangram, an ancient chinesse puzzle which is loads of fun and news about cultural events. So when your done reading over your favorite blogs (wink, wink) then check out the site and feel a bit more cultured.

Marching On

A preview of the D&G fall ad campaign. They have reintroduced the marching band/military jacket and its growing on me. Love the muted color scheme, the blues and reds. Bow ties have been building popularity the last couple of seasons keep an eye out for them. And the frames are very cool if I used glasses I would sport this for sure.

Ending Fast

A few posts ago I mentioned a friend's goal to not shop for one year. She is almost done with her fashion fast and these are a couple of her insights. To read the rest visit her blog.

3. Think Long-Term. Most fashion magazines will hate that I am saying this, but don't feel inclined to change your wardrobe to meet the current fads. Fads are fads because they don't last forever. Style is classic, enduring, smart. Find your personal style and stick to it. When shopping, ask, "Would I wear this in five years? Or is it something that is only appealing for this season?" Go with the piece that you will still love putting on in the morning five years from now.

4. Remember: Quality, not Quantity. American women tend to think, "Okay, I have X amount of cash, so that means I need to get as many articles of clothing possible with my limited funds." On the other hand, most European women think, "Okay, I have X amount of cash, so that means I need to find one, good quality item that is perfect for me." Blowing your fashion budget on clothing that will literally fall apart at the seams in 3 months is not worth your money or time. Spend your energies on a piece that is gorgeous, durable, and works just as hard as you do.

-Congrats CH!

Save a Sole or two

I have a pair of black leather ankle boots that I got at Banana Republic over five years ago that I love. They go great with jeans and a t-shirt or dress pants and a button down. I love them so much that the soles, shoe laces, and inserts were getting, lets just say very broken-in. Then I flipped through this page on GQ and knew what I had to do. I had to find a cobbler or shoe repair guy (however you want to call him) to help breath life back to my poor boots. I thought I could do it myself but alas the boots needed professional attention. So for 40 bucks I got brand new looking ankle boots that I love and are already broken in. If you have a pair of shoes that are looking a little worn but you love them too much to part with them; visit your local cobbler or shoe repair guy, (whatever you want to call him) and save their sole!
