A Hint of Yellow

A friend, has expressed an obsession for yellow countless of times. As I was looking through some Spring/Summer 2010 look books I immediately thought of her and had to post that guys can do yellow too. Louis Vuitton S/S 2010.

No Pleats Please

The season of interns in our fair cities is way underway. As I ride the metro I see them with hope in their eyes gleefully and with a certain naivete living in the city. I've noticed a trend among them, these guys wear pleated pants! Maybe its a finance/law thing. These are young men wearing pants that are generally a bit too big and to top it off the pants are pleated? Why is that? Why do pleats translate to most people as dressed up? Lets think about this for a second, pleats add volume to wherever they are located. And if the gentleman be him young or old is a little on the heavier side why add more volume to yourself? Stay away from pleats all together. There is no need for them. A friend once mentioned that when he was a kid pleats scared him "why are my pants doing this?" he would ask. I don't think I thought about it much when I was younger, but now I can say that flat fronts are the way to go. The clean lines will not add that which nobody wants, a heavier looking midsection. The fabric of the pants and the color will make it more or less dressy, try it please! Pants- Jcrew.

Coming This Fall

For you fellow Harry Potter fans here is a glimpse at the Burberry fall ad campaign featuring Hermione, I mean, Emma Watson. I've seen her on a couple of editorials and she has never looked this good and comfortable.Vogue.UK and WWD.

Machu-Pichu On My Mind

I stumbled upon this editorial in the May 09 issue of Teen Vogue. I was immediately enchanted by Peru and it made me want to escape and go to this magical land. Hope it can enchant you aswell. Some of the clothes is cool too.

Inspiration

If you've been reading this blog you'll quickly understand why I chose this picture. The mixture of patterns, herringbone and gingham is great and the pocket square, classic. Click on the picture and read the text. You just never know whose looking. VF July 09.

Model As Muse

Have you been to the Met yet? A few days ago I visited one of my favorite museums in NYC to check out the new exhibit, Model As Muse. It was such a great exhibit. To walk through the different rooms and read up on these models and how they in their special way changed the definition of beauty in the world of fashion was fun. There were some great images and short bios on models, some a little more well-known than others like Twiggy, Kate Moss and Iman to name a few. One of my favorite rooms played the video by George Michael, Freedom! "90". That totally brought me back. I remember when I was younger being so impressed with the video and all the super models especially when the camera is inside the chunky sweater...but now I can tell that I was naive because its very sexy. But I digress. The video showed the 90's and the models of the time. It's totally worth going and checking it out, then stay a while longer and walk around the amazing building that is the Met.

I thought I'll include the song on the post to spice things up a bit...just a bit though.

The Tie Tree

This picture hangs above my bed and it was calling out to me for days on end. Suddenly it came to me, the tie tree. A story started coming together in my head. Instead of me telling you...

Model- Tim Barnhart
Prop stylist- Corbrett Hodson

With the help of these guys my vision came true and the story was told.

Check Out Her House

A friend is spending the summer in Copenhagen studying and going on different adventures and is obviously inspired. Check out her blog, The House That Lars Built. It's definitely making me want to go over there...its so inspiring. The looks from Mjolk above were featured on her blog. I chose them because I liked their shoes and pants and the red socks, very cool.

Summer Options

One of the hardest things for me in the summer is adding variety to my clothes. I grew up in the tropics so a t-shirt and jeans were the norm. Enter, ribbon belts. They are simple and colorful
and can add that extra something without being to showy. This is also one of those few things men and women can share.

That's A Cover

Covers can be so saturated with words and crazy symbols. This one by Vogue Italia May 09 is simple and striking. The following are also beautiful examples of covers.

French Vogue Dec/Jan 08
American Vogue Oct 05
Maybe Americans are too wordy (it's still beautiful though).
