-What is your job title? Assistant Costume Designer sometimes I get hired as a Shopper
-What and where did you study? I have a BFA in Costume Design from DePaul University in Chicago.
-How did you get started in this industry? My degree was in Costume Design for Theatre so that's where I started. By the end of College I was pretty burnt out on theatre and wanted to see what it would be like to work on a film or TV show. I moved to New York and shacked up with my boyfriend. I sent my resume out for months and months and worked at a vintage shop on the side. Finally I got a call to be a Costume Department Production Assistant for a movie called The Royal Tennenbaums. I showed up in heels thinking it was an interview. The Designer handed me a credit card, a list and said get started. I bought a pair of flip flops on the street, went to the Barnes & Noble and bought a street map.
-What is a typical day like?A typical day as a shopper would be to meet with the designer or the assistant in the morning and get a list of what is needed for that day' s fittings or filming. Then you literally shop for the whole day, I'd say for 8 to 10 hours. It's pretty physical work. You are always working against the clock. Traffic is a huge part of it. It's a constant balance of getting the right pieces in the shortest amount of time. A typical day as an assistant really varies. Some days start on set, some at the office it depends on what's going on. I worked on the same TV show for 7 years so I had a typical routine. Starting at the office I would pull from our stock room of clothes and compile a list of missing items for the the shopper to shop. In the mornings I would coordinate with the assistant directors to book fittings, call actors to get sizes, help the shopper shop. In the afternoons I would assist the designer in the fittings and get the clothes in place for the next day's shooting. Generally we get the actor sizes in the morning have a couple hours to shop it, fit it in the afternoon, have the tailor work on pieces and it would be on camera the next morning. It's a really fast pace. Everyday is different, different characters, different actors, different shooting locations. It always keeps you on your toes.
-What are some of your favorite tv shows, or films of all time in relation to costume design?( If I remember right Dan Humphrey was your tv boyfriend...but do you also like the fashion on Gossip Girl?) Lately I have been really into this 1960 Italian movie L'avventura. I love old movies. The best is when I am so into a movie that I'm not thinking about the costumes. As for TV I think they do a great job on Gossip Girl. I can't even imagine how much work goes into it. Outside of Gossip Girl I really don't watch too much TV that involves costumes. I am more of a Project Runway/Top Chef kinda girl.
-What inspires you? New York City. I Love New York. It is a truly inspirational place to live and work. I have been really into the beach, the ocean and all its creatures this year.
-How would describe your style? Mixed. I love mixing old&new, plaid&floral, expensive&inexpensive, and stripes lots of stripes.This year maybe 1960s french student with a touch of Avenue C.

-¿Cómo empezaste a trabajar en esta industria?
Mi bachillerato fue en Diseño de Vestuario de Teatro que es donde y como empecé. Al final de la universidad, estaba cansada del teatro y quería ver como sería trabajar en una película o programa de televisión. Me mudé a Nueva York a vivir con mi novio. Envié mi currículum a todos sitios durante meses y meses y trabajaba en una tienda vintage mientras tanto. Finalmente, recibí una llamada para ser Asistente de Producción en el departamento de vestuario de una película llamada The Real Tennenbaums. Me presenté en mis tacones pensando que era una entrevista. El diseñador me entregó una tarjeta de crédito, una lista y dijo que empezara. Compre un par de chancletas en la calle, fui a la librería Barnes & Noble y compre un mapa de la ciudad.
-Qué es un día típico?
Un día típico como comprador sería de reunirse con el diseñador o el asistente en la mañana y obtener una lista de lo que se necesita para ese día, sea accesorios o filmación. Entonces, literalmente, ir de tiendas todo el día; yo diría que de 8 a 10 horas. Es un trabajo muy físico. Uno siempre está trabajando contra el reloj. El tráfico es una gran parte de ello. Es un equilibrio constante de conseguir las piezas correctas en el menor tiempo posible. Un día típico como asistente realmente varía. Algunos días comienzan en el set, algunos en la oficina, todo depende de lo que está pasando. Yo trabajè en el mismo programa de TV durante 7 años, así que tuve una rutina típica. A parte de la oficina, iba a el closet de stock de ropa a compilar una lista de artículos que faltan para el comprador para ir a buscar a las tiendas. En las mañanas me gusta coordinar con los asistentes directores, hacer citas con los actores para que se prueban la ropa, llamar a los actores para obtener los tamaños, ayudar compradores. Por las tardes ayudaba al diseñador con los actores y a organizar la ropa para el rodaje del día siguiente. Generalmente recibimos las tallas del actor en la mañana, tenemos un par de horas en las tiendas,;luego toca probarlo en la tarde, La costurera hace los cambios necesarios en las piezas para aparecer frente a la cámara la mañana siguiente. Es un ritmo muy rápido. Cada día es diferente, diferentes personajes, diferentes actores, diferentes locales. Siempre te mantiene listo.
-¿Cuáles son algunos de tus programas favoritos de televisión o películas de todos los tiempos en relación con el diseño de vestuario? (Si no recuerdo mal, Dan Humphrey era tu novio de TV ... pero también te gusta el estilo en Gossip Girl)
Últimamente he estado realmente en la película Italiana de 1960 L'Avventura . Me encantan las películas antiguas. Lo mejor es cuando estoy viendo una película y no estoy pensando en el vestuario. En cuanto a la televisión creo que hacen un gran trabajo en Gossip Girl. No puedo ni imaginar cuánto trabajo va en él. Fuera de Gossip Girl realmente no veo demasiada televisión que consiste en el vestuario. Yo soy más de los programas de television como Project Runway / Top Chef.
-Qué te inspira?
La ciudad de Nueva York. I Love New York. Es verdaderamente un lugar de inspiración para vivir y trabajar. He estado muy interesada realmente en la playa, el mar y todas sus criaturas durante este año.
-¿Cómo describirías tu estilo?
