Links of the Week

A round-up of interesting sites, links, and everything in between found on the web.

Thanks to Marlon Gobel's twitter feed @MarlonGobel I found out about Dudepins.com. It's the men's version of pinterest. Take a look.

This cool tumblr, Copping and Scheming, has humor, a preppy with a slight hip-hop menswear point of view, and pretty girls.

My friend at The House That Lars Built has started a new post series called THIS GUY. She gets an image of a guy and makes up a little bio using images based on what he's wearing, it's great.

I'm fascinated by how bad the new Chanel No.5 commercial is. It made me look up one of the last ones they did with Audrey Tautou and Travis Davenport @TraviswSoul, now, that's a great commercial.

Interview: Push Culture

Have you ever heard someone speak with intense passion? To the point you wanted to feel the same passion?

That’s how I felt while I was listening to Travis Davenport , a model with Soul Artist Management explain the idea behind Push Culture, as we were shooting a MaxMara ad campaign.

We met up a couple of weeks ago for brunch at Dos Caminos on a wonderful rainy day in NYC. Travis's lovely wife, Jenica, his twin brother Brian and our mutual friend, fellow longboarder and model Sean Harju joined us. Travis, Brian and Jenica make up part of the Push Culture team.

What did we talk about while we were enjoying all that delicious food? Pretty much everything and anything that came to mind. It was stream of consciousness in its purest form. Of course, we talked about the Men’s fashion shows in Europe and they reminisced how they used to be the youngest ones there. Longboarding was the interwoven subject because they were getting ready and pumped for the upcoming skating event in Washington, Mary Hill festival of speed which is now taking place and being covered by the Push Culture team.

Some how the end of the world came up specifically how people thought that the world was going to end in the year 2000 which led to the discussion of 4th of July celebrations. The Davenports spent one of their 4th of Julys at Disney World meanwhile Sean really wants to spend one in DC. The conversation went back to longboarding and Jenica shared a great story about two girls; one of which could not finish a race and the other girl who told her to grab on to her as they skated to the finish line. As Jenica was filming this event she said how emotional she got to see such sisterhood and team spirit. This is the passion I was talking to you about, these Davenports love what they’re doing, love to longboard and love to share it with others. To share this love they’ve created PC news covering all the events and interviews a longboarder would be interested in and as a result unifying the skating community.

Not sure how we got into state fairs and price cattle but we did and then it came up that everyone at the table except for me was from small town. To say the least I had an amazing time and felt completely welcomed in their midst and learned a great deal about their world be it fashion shows and the best airlines to fly with to road rash and the importance of always wearing a helmet.

Factoids:
Travis and Brian were scouted on a parking lot in Dallas, Texas.
They have been modeling for 6 years.
Since they were scouted they have gone to the Milan and Paris shows every year.
Travis and Brian have modeled for ad campaigns and run way shows for such designers as Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabanna, Perry Ellis, Cerruti to name a few and Travis was in a
Chanel 5 commercial with Audrey TautouJenica has organized an all women's longboarding group, the meetings are called FLO sessions, "It's just a bunch of females from all over NYC, that come to skate and learn new things. It's an incredible mix of people."
PushCulture is not only about news but also about fashion, Jenica designs PC apparel! like the t-shirt at the left.
Jenica attended FIT where she studied formal wear and sports apparel design.

I love the retro feel of the white socks, which has also been used in a variety of ads like Bottega Veneta and editorials.
