Inspirations for NYFW- Menswear F/W 2019

New York Fashion Week is only a few days away. The fashion world is running on adrenaline, coffee and lack of sleep as all the preparations are under way to present the Fall/Winter 2019 collections. For most the collections start with a sketch, an idea, a location or even time period. Here are a few of those inspirations and quotes from some of my favorite designers and some new names you should have on your radar.

Brand/Designer name:  Chan Chit Lo
Inspiration: Inspired by the work of Frank Meadow, this season, we celebrate the fishermen from the 19th century. Chan Chit Lo conveyed the spirit of the Fisherman and the scenery of their daily life to the collection, from the tools they use for work to the sense of harbor. Chan Chit Lo use of piles of yarn, recycled fabric and unwanted garments and transform it into luxury textile design, through her hand-craft. She believes the vision of luxury is creating craftsmanship from faults, flawed and imperfect materials.

Brand/Designer name: KA WA KEY Designers: Key Chow & Jarno Leppanen
Inspiration: KA WA KEY explores hedonism and reworks everyday streetwear with the designers’ roots of the Asian and Scandinavian aesthetics. Re-imagining traditional textile crafts and applies them on considered signature streetwear, with an unusual balance of high-concept, accessibility wearability, simplicity and soft romantic masculinity. KA WA KEY believes beauty of twinks.

Brand/Designer name: David Hart
Inspiration: A minimalist wardrobe

Brand/Designer name: Son Jung Wan
Inspiration: The women's and men's Fall 2019 collection is full of unconventionally mixing of faux fur, checkered prints, flowered prints, embroidered fabrics, sequins, and velvet, that have bold color to create a romantic mood full of playfulness.

Brand: Descendant of Thieves
Inspiration: Love Thy Neighbor, But Dress Like Yourself. We find inspiration in the individualism of New Yorkers— fewer judgements and an openness to people who celebrate personal style. It’s about respectfully living amongst others but truly being yourself.

Brand/Designer name: Krammer & Stoudt
Inspiration: Krammer & Stoudt presents the Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection, inspired by the iconoclastic figure of Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart), a cult hero of the California psychedelic/desert rock scene of the late 60's and early 70’s. Expanding with that catalyst, the collection incorporates style elements of the era of rock music between 1969-1974 specifically, with an emphasis on the culture of the Sunset Strip and the wide open spaces of Joshua Tree, CA.

David Hart Spring/Summer 2016

The David Hart Spring/Summer 2016 collection was inspired by the Bauhaus and it's artists during the inter-war period in Germany. This makes the collection even more special because a time of war inspired such a beautiful interpretation of menswear. The first thing that came to mind when I entered the space of the presentation was stained glass with all it's different colors affected by the sun. You'll find suits made from Irish linen, merino wool, and even an iridescent tuxedo. Take a look and find the next look that will make you the most memorable at the party for all the right reasons.

Close up- What do you think of the necklace? Would you rock it?
These are seriously one of my favorite combination of looks. I think the sunglasses have something to do with it in addition to the rich hues.
Bold suiting and tuxes were seen throughout the collection.

NYFW:M Spring Summer '16 Inspirations

In just a couple of days the very first New York Fashion Week: Men will be here and we will be able to see the men's collections for Spring/Summer 2016! For the upcoming shows I was able to get a few inspiration illustrations from some designers that are showing. Seeing a fashion illustration is mad special because it gives you a glimpse of how the clothes and looks appear inside the designer's mind. Take a gander at these illustrations from David Hart, Lucio Castro, PLAC and CWST. Notice the proportions, colors and feel of each look they are almost like the designers finger prints, unique to each one.

CWST
Inspired by Death Valley, CACWST SS16 reveals unlikely combinations of intense textures and remarkable lightness, with a persistent urban aftertaste. -- Joe Sadler and Derek Buse, Founders and Designers of CWST

PLAC

PLAC's Mood board
"For SS16, PLAC was inspired by a line in the song 'Wake-up' by Arcade fire to bring an energetic collection of youthful rebellion as seen in urban silhouettes inspired by the function and modern details of neo-military and contemporary sportswear."

New York Men's Day Designer's Inspirations

New York Fashion Week is right around the corner. Invitations are being sent, models casted, clothes fitted, so many details in preparation for the big event! Before the clothes can walk down the runway it all starts with a sketch and an inspiration. The following are some of the designers that will be showing on New York Men's day, September 3rd. Just by these sketches I can see we have a lot to look forward to.

LUCIO CASTRO
"The forlorn nostalgia of Soviet summers in destinations like Odessa and Sopot is at the heart of  the SS15 collection"

CARLOS CAMPOS
"Inspired by the Spanish "Public Space Artist" El Tono (The Tone).  Carlos Campos applied the artist's techniques to his designs by overlaying geometric treatments over his classic pieces while maintaining the same attention to detail and tailoring with a sense of movement."

DAVID HART
"SS15 is inspired by Palm Springs and the idea of desert modernity - minimal lines and dusty colors."

GENTS
“Gents Spring ’15 collection was inspired by the athletic and masculine elements of the sport of boxing and the clean lines and colors of Formula One Racing.”

ORIGINAL PENGUIN
"For Spring 2015, Original Penguin takes inspiration from the energetic and glamorous Magic City itself: late 1950’s Miami. The color palette blends chromatic reds and vibrant greens with a splash of aqua and soft pinks, providing a contrast reminiscent of the saturated colors of beachfront homes set against the soft pastel colors of Miami’s art-deco streets."
