Inspirations for NYFW- Menswear F/W 2019

New York Fashion Week is only a few days away. The fashion world is running on adrenaline, coffee and lack of sleep as all the preparations are under way to present the Fall/Winter 2019 collections. For most the collections start with a sketch, an idea, a location or even time period. Here are a few of those inspirations and quotes from some of my favorite designers and some new names you should have on your radar.

Brand/Designer name:  Chan Chit Lo
Inspiration: Inspired by the work of Frank Meadow, this season, we celebrate the fishermen from the 19th century. Chan Chit Lo conveyed the spirit of the Fisherman and the scenery of their daily life to the collection, from the tools they use for work to the sense of harbor. Chan Chit Lo use of piles of yarn, recycled fabric and unwanted garments and transform it into luxury textile design, through her hand-craft. She believes the vision of luxury is creating craftsmanship from faults, flawed and imperfect materials.

Brand/Designer name: KA WA KEY Designers: Key Chow & Jarno Leppanen
Inspiration: KA WA KEY explores hedonism and reworks everyday streetwear with the designers’ roots of the Asian and Scandinavian aesthetics. Re-imagining traditional textile crafts and applies them on considered signature streetwear, with an unusual balance of high-concept, accessibility wearability, simplicity and soft romantic masculinity. KA WA KEY believes beauty of twinks.

Brand/Designer name: David Hart
Inspiration: A minimalist wardrobe

Brand/Designer name: Son Jung Wan
Inspiration: The women's and men's Fall 2019 collection is full of unconventionally mixing of faux fur, checkered prints, flowered prints, embroidered fabrics, sequins, and velvet, that have bold color to create a romantic mood full of playfulness.

Brand: Descendant of Thieves
Inspiration: Love Thy Neighbor, But Dress Like Yourself. We find inspiration in the individualism of New Yorkers— fewer judgements and an openness to people who celebrate personal style. It’s about respectfully living amongst others but truly being yourself.

Brand/Designer name: Krammer & Stoudt
Inspiration: Krammer & Stoudt presents the Autumn/Winter 2019 Collection, inspired by the iconoclastic figure of Don Van Vliet (Captain Beefheart), a cult hero of the California psychedelic/desert rock scene of the late 60's and early 70’s. Expanding with that catalyst, the collection incorporates style elements of the era of rock music between 1969-1974 specifically, with an emphasis on the culture of the Sunset Strip and the wide open spaces of Joshua Tree, CA.

Spring Blues

We're practically half way through May and we still can't put away our sweaters here in the northeast. So here I am embracing the cold temperatures with this Wrangler sweatshirt and still feeling like it's spring with the Sebago boat shoes. How are you making your outfits work with this indecisive weather?

I'm a sucker for the color blue and comfortable sweatshirts. So this one here was a win-win!

These Sebago boat shoes have become my go-to's for spring and summer.

Layering For Fall

As the temperature is dropping our layering game needs to step up for the occasion! Here are a few looks to help you transition in to fall during its colder and milder days as seen on Damien Davis at Soul Artist Management, styled by yours truly.

Summer is Almost Here

Slowly summer is making its way to the city. I know I'll hate myself for saying this but I want summer to get here stat! Summer means trips to the beach, roof top parties and lot of more daylight which equals more time to explore too. Recently, I went to check out a new bagel joint that opened in my hood, Bob's Bagel. If you find yourself in Harlem make sure to try these delicious bagels and take some great pics while you're at it.

Because a great t-shirt is also a summer necessity. Mack Weldon has a huge array of great colors.

Justin Bethel from the Arizona Cardinals also does a bit of modeling. He's signed with top modeling agency Wilhelmina in NYC and as you can see the camera loves him. Here he shows us a few spring essentials that every man needs this season.

A Day With Lady Liberty

I've lived in New York City for about 15 years, boy time flies! Never had I visited the Statue of Liberty. One of my goals for this year is to take advantage of this wonderful city. With everything happening in the political arena more than ever this symbol of liberty stands out as a beacon on what this country was built upon. Guys, if you ever have the chance go to this National Park, marvel at the view of downtown New York City and of this national symbol of liberty.

Well Suited With Indochino

I was invited over to the Indochino location in SoHo recently to experience first hand their custom tailoring service. The chic surroundings helped set the tone as I decided on all the details of the suit. I had someone along the way explaining and showing examples of all the different choices that are available in the showroom. My biggest suggestion is to vocalize your thoughts and doubts so they know what you are looking for and imagining and they will direct you to great options. Be aware that to make a custom suit takes time, so allow your self a few weeks to get things done as you will need to come in for a final fitting once the suit is ready. Take a look at my new favorite suit, the fit and all the details I chose.

Shirt and tie- Nick Graham

One of my favorite details is the monograming option. Oh, and that lining, I chose that too and it's a swarm of bees!

I went for the three piece suit and love how the waist coat fits.

When I went to OKLAHOMA!

Little did I know that life was going to take me to Oklahoma but there I was, last week, to support my brother as he graduated from boot camp for the Army. As any proud brother who is also a blogger would do I went scouting for a cool spot to take pictures while he was getting debriefed. Driving around the area this beautiful building turned up. It used to be a high school and is now used as a municipal building. If you ever find yourself in those neck of the woods do not dismay there are a few things you should do and local places you should eat at. Let's start with dessert, do go to Braum's. This place has cheap and delicious desserts and is kind of like a bodega too. For an actual meal go to Back Porch Draft House, everything we got there was delicious. Lastly, make sure to go to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. This city slicker was in awe of the majestic bison and the beautiful landscape. All in all, I had a great time and will not lie when I tell you that I also went to Outback and Chuck E. Cheese because, family. I'll do anything for family.

I like to pack light and this Fjall Raven duffle was ideal for this short trip.

Sunglasses were a must during this trip! Sunglasses- RAEN

This shirt was perfect for the dry 80 degrees in Oklahoma. Shirt- Life/After/Denim

My Swim Trunks Be 3D Poppin'

Don't say good bye to summer just yet! These swim trunks and shirt from Original Penguin will have you holding on for a bit longer. Inspired by 3D movies, the patterns include film reels, camera, popcorn and more. I loved wearing the shirt and trunks. If you're into these you'll have to check out the rest of the 13 piece collection which include oxfords, polo, jacket and even underwear.

Photographer: Erik Carter

Oh yeah! Almost forgot, a pair of 3D glasses is included with each piece. How else will everyone really see the 3D magic?

I added this awesome blue watch from Nixon, the color just adds enough pop!
