Interview | Karen Murray, President of Nautica and Their New Store

Ladies and gentlemen- exciting news! Nautica, one of our favorite brands, has opened its first doors to a store in SOHO in New York City. Karen Murray, President of Nautica took a moment to answer a few questions about the new location and about the brand. Take a look at the cool interior design of the store and the great clothes of course.

- Who is the Nautica man and woman?
The Nautica man and woman care deeply about style and the brands that they purchase. They seek many sources for inspiration, especially those with authority such as magazines, blogs and celebrities. Style is a tool that helps them to feel respected and be appropriate. They are driven, self-confident, action-oriented people who take charge of their days, their goals and their aspirations. They have a strong affinity for the water. For them, it’s a place to connect, have fun, be social and active. In their busy lives, the water is a place to get away from the grind and be their best selves.

- Why open a store now?
Two years ago the Nautica team embarked on a brand journey worldwide in an effort to better address the needs of its target consumer and refine their brand positioning. The results enabled the brand to resonate more with the target consumer, broaden its reach, and differentiate itself from other fashion brands. The SoHo store opening embodies the brand’s refreshed marketing and design strategy that was announced in February 2016. The new positioning: Reimagine Nautica - Inspired by the Sea, Designed in the City, celebrates the Nautica brand's home in New York City and its established nautical heritage.

- What are some of the key pieces in the Spring '16 collection we should seek out?
The men's selection offers updated outerwear in new fabrications, such as high-twist poly and water repellent cotton nylon as well as new elements such as engineered pockets and inverted pleats. You will see more wovens, sweaters, sport coats and pants that have been added to the collection to help consumers build head-to-toe looks. The women’s line includes timeless pieces that are versatile. You can expect to see day-to-night staples, like chambray shift dresses, tailored trousers, and modern jumpsuits, available in a feminine mix of neutrals and sea glass shades.

- Are there plans on opening another location in the near future?
We would love to, but our focus right now is building awareness and excitement around the SoHo store.

Cable Knits Are For Fall

Sweater- Nautica | Shirt- Threads For Thought | Jeans- Wrangler RED | Glasses- Classic Specs

The cable knit sweater is one of the season's staples. Luckily, there are a lot of options out there on fabrics and patterns. For these transitional months, a cotton cable knit sweater is thick enough to keep you warm but not so warm you're sweating if the temperature get's a bit warmer. Pair it with a plaid flannel shirt and you are set.

Shawl Collar Sweaters

I'm glad to say the shawl collar sweater is here to stay and it's perfect for fall. Get it with elbow patches, with contrast collar and cuff,  or cable knit. Whatever you choose you won't go wrong. I selected a few of my favorites sweaters from Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, The Men's Shop at Bloomingdales and Nautica. Do your self a favor and check them out.

Me alegra decir que el suéter de cuello chal (o smoking) se ha mantenido en la tendencia de moda para hombres en el otoño. Consigue lo con el cuello en color contraste, en punto, o con coderas. Cualquiera que escojas te veras bien. Escogí algunos de mis favoritos de Brooks BrothersRalph LaurenLacoste, The Men's Shop at Bloomingdales y Nautica.

NYFW Runway Trends S/S 2013

New York fashion week has come to a close and yet there is still more to talk about. While I attended the shows I noticed a couple of trends, these are some of my favorites. The first, is monochromatic looks. You find all green, all blue or even all neutrals on the runways. The top pictures show the models wearing these elevated monochromatic looks with different shades of blue. What man doesn't love blue? This will translate perfectly to the streets. The other trend is the short suit or a jacket and a pair of shorts. The best part about this trend is that its easy to mix and match and to dress up or keep casual. What trends were your favorite? images from GQ.com and AdentroStyle

The Details!

Ryan Kennedy

It was a beautiful hot summer day at the Nautica Spring Summer 2013 presentation on the roof top of the Empire Hotel. That only helped showcase the great collection and highlight the bold colors and patterns. Color blocking is evident throughout the collection and boat shoes as seen here are a must-have. This collection is all about the details like the anchors on the navy shirt and as you can see the tie has a little pop of yellow on the back.

Those were the models. These were the guests.

Take note on how the jeans fit and hit the shoe.

love the shoes and the fold.
