Road Trip: Galaxy Diner on Route 66

Little did we know that right across a most awful hotel where we spent the night there would be this awesome 50's diner on Route 66 in Flagstaff, AZ called Galaxy Diner. I can honestly say that breakfast and lunch are great here because we came twice on the same day specifically because they offer 100 different milkshakes flavors. We had to come back for the milk shakes (Yolo)! I had the cookies and cream and chocolate milkshake while my little sister had the brownie chocolate milkshake and they give you the silver cup where its all mixed, so good.

Add Some Color To Your Summer

Summer is a great time to wear color- do not be afraid of it! For a more subtle approach to color watch out for the intensity of the colors. This look includes a rich green pair of chinos with a light blue oxford shirt and red sunglasses for a touch of contrast.

Note- The oxford shirt is a must-have for summer, especially one that is made of Egyptian cotton like this one from Hugh & Crye. The medium weight of the fabric makes it a great option for the warmer climate. Also, you can't go wrong with a light blue shirt. They work well for adventures around town during the weekend and for more professional settings during the week.

An Insider's Perspective On How Clothes Gets Priced

I've always wondered about the process of pricing clothes. I invited Sim Gulati from Barley & Britches
to tell us about some of the factors that going in to pricing a garment and how that makes Barley & Britches even that more special.

Why Does Premium Quality Come At A Premium Price?

-Sim Gulati

Did you know that, at $130, the average pair of premium Chinos are marked up by nearly 300% because each middleman nearly doubles the price from production to the rack?

Why are chinos so costly? It basically boils down to unnecessary middlemen that your favorite fashion brand add on to the price of what you're paying for.

Middlemen begin to pile up starting from the very top of the production chain, the manufacturers have their fixed sale price, followed by the agents (who connect manufacturers to wholesalers) and then the wholesalers. Followed by the retailers, who can even add an almost full $100 to the entire cost of the garment. So something that may have cost just a considerably less to create, ends up at your nearest mall at almost a fourfold increase in price. This is simply not right.

As a result, I have made it my mission to disrupt the traditional supply chain in the men's fashion industry by trimming the fat out of bloated prices and a padded manufacturing processes. How? I have simply figured out how to remove the unnecessary costs that arbitrarily inflate prices.  I am able to do this because I founded an international manufacturing company, The Gulati Group, and have produced apparel for retailers and brands such as  Macy's, Nautica and Under Armour.

By removing the wholesaler and unnecessary middlemen, my new company Barley & Britches can bring consumers premium clothing at its original manufacturing sale price, no additional markups. The Everyday Chino only costs $38 because it comes straight from the source. There are no middlemen, retailers or wholesalers along the way. This is really the way all fashion brands should function, because there's no excuse to get stuck paying so much more for just a simple, comfortable pair of high quality chinos.

So the next time you think about buying a pair of great pants, instead of turning to the heavily marked-up Chinos at the mall, try something new - go shopping at that mom and pop shop down the street, or peruse the internet for a local, small retailer. What's crucial is to make sure your retailer of choice avoids agents, wholesalers and the like.

This can mean the difference between paying $130 and $30.

Or even better, check out my Kickstarter campaign for The Everyday Chinos, available online for only $38.

How To Balance Out A Bold Pattern

Polo- Uniqlo x Michael Bastian | Chinos- JCrew | Sneakers- Sperry (similar)  | Bracelet- Hearts

Bold patterns are a big trend right now. For someone whose never worn a bold pattern that can be a very daunting and even scary thought, at least it was for me. When I looked at the huge array of colors, styles and patterns available at the Uniqlo by Michael Bastian collection ( Note- There are only a few left!) I was confronted with a tough question, do I go bold? I got out of my comfort zone and chose the navy polo with the white pattern. I love it. I paired it here with chinos to tone down the pattern so there is nothing competing for attention in my look. If you wear a bold patterned shirt, polo, or T-shirt pair it with jeans or chinos in neutral colors- khaki, gray, navy, black and white. Guys, don't be afraid to go bold.

What I Wore | Neutral Patterns

Shirt Hugh & Crye | Pants JCrew | Tie Club Monaco | Shoes Chuck Taylors

As I was looking through the Hugh & Crye website I saw a lot of great shirts. All I was thinking about is how I didn't want another white or blue shirt. Luckily, they have a wide variety of colors and cuts. I chose the Mather, it's a perfect light grey grid pattern and it'll transition from summer to fall with ease. The color and small pattern lend itself to be considered a neutral color. I think a wide variety of ties will go great with this shirt because of the light shade and size of the pattern; they wont compete with each other. The fit is great, it's comfortable and I can make a lot of combinations with it- three very important things.

Cuando visite el sitio de web de Hugh & Crye vi muchas camisas. Yo no quería otra camisa blanca o azul.

Love the combination of stripes with the grid.

Spring Essential | The Denim Jacket

ASOS Denim Jacket

JCrew Denim Jacket
Spring Essential | The Denim Jacket

Spring is about transition and the denim jacket is great for that time of year. I looked around and my favorites are from ASOS and JCrew. As pictured here you can wear a denim jacket with jeans just make sure they're a darker wash. You can also wear the denim jacket with chinos, a button down shirt and tie, It'll have you looking very sharp. Remember, the denim jacket is a classic so you'll never have to get rid of it.
